About Golf@SSM
Shattuck-St. Mary’s School has created a college preparatory program designed specifically to meet the needs of dedicated students looking to pursue their passion in GOLF. The Golf Center of Excellence Program is the first golf program of its kind and follows the fundamentals set in place by the hockey, soccer, and figure skating programs. Students now have the ability to combine college preparatory academics with an intensive 10 month golf program in the Midwest.
Key Components of the Golf Program
- Philosophy
- Each player works individually with our PGA Director of Golf on a daily basis. Our participants benefit from the unique combination of a college preparatory class schedule and a premier golf experience all at one campus location.
- Personalization
- Each student has a personalized relationship with the Director of Golf in order to develop an individual practice regimen specific to each golfer. The one and one attention each student receives allows the program to adapt to each student’s learning style and maximize individual progress.
- Competition
- We create a weekend tournament schedule in which our student athletes perform against nationally ranked junior golfers on some of the best golf courses in the nation. The schedule during the academic year will be comprised of events hosted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT), Plantations Junior Golf Tour, Minnesota Jr. PGA, and other prestigious junior tours in order to gain regional and national success and exposure.
- Physical and Mental Preparation
- Shattuck-St. Mary’s School has a well equipped weight training facility which our Golf COE participants utilize several times a week. Our golfers benefit by working one-on-one with a fitness expert to help devise a work-out regiment specific to his or her needs using the Titleist Performance Institute standards. Our Director of Golf will individually work with each golfer to help him or her be mentally prepared for each endeavor.
- College Placement
- It is our goal to place each participant in a college or university setting that is conductive to their individual learning style while allowing the best opportunity for continued development of their golf game. As a former collegiate coach, Mike Higdon has the resources and networks to help each student transition to collegiate golf and beyond.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s Golf Center of Excellence Program offers the committed golfer: strong coaching, outstanding facilities for year-round golf, a 12-month training and competition schedule, and an educational environment that can open doors at the best colleges.
