Year-Round Golf (including winter in Minnesota)
During the winter months, traditional golfers may continue to work on their golf game by meeting with their golf professional or coach once every other week or less. They might hit balls a few times a week. In the Golf Center of Excellence Program at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School, students work with the Director of Golf on a daily basis and have practice time every day. The increased time and training has an immediate positive impact on the players. An instrumental part of the SSM program includes participation in competitive tournaments year-round. Junior tours such as AJGA, FCWT, Plantations, etc., are utilized to improve the national junior ranking of our players. During the spring and fall, tournament play will be focused on venues in the Midwest; while in the winter months students and Coach Higdon will be traveling south and west to warmer climates in order to stay active on the golf course and in tournament play. The Director of Golf will be accompanying students to the tournaments and observing how they play in competitive settings. This will help in the overall evaluation of their tournament play and strategic on-course performance. In addition to the tournaments played during the school year, Coach Higdon will assist our students in developing a competitive summer tournament schedule that will maximize exposure and continued growth.
